Prioritize your relationships

We are social creatures, and our physical and mental health is reliant upon our relational health. Using techniques based in family systems theory and family resilience theory, Dogwood Therapy and Coaching will help you unlock the power and joy in your relationships.

  • The state of our relationships greatly impacts our personal health and wellness. Our relationships are not static: they are growing and developing (or atrophying and dying) with our everyday choices. The most rewarding and healthy relationships are those are that balance the competing needs of connection and autonomy, flexibility and stability, and communication and privacy. Relationship patterns can be enhanced or exaggerated in times of stress—and that is also a prime time to make change. How do you and your loved ones navigate stress? How do your relationship’s connection, flexibility, and communication allow you to solve problems, achieve goals, and live the life of your dreams?

Harness the power of resilience

Communication, meaning-making, and organization are the three systems of resilience in families. Identifying your unique strengths will equip you to navigate any difficulty and to achieve your goals.

  • The communication system relates to how family members share information and show affection. The meaning-making system refers to family identity and how they interpret what is happening in the family or in the outside world. The organization system refers to how families distribute power, make decisions, and assign responsibilities. Many families never talk about their communication, their meaning-making, or their organization, and they remain in the same patterns. By talking openly about our relationships, we can identify our strengths, enhance our relationships, and navigate any difficulty we may face.

 Achieve balance

Our physical bodies, emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and spirituality are interconnected. Perpetual imbalance contributes to struggle and stress in our lives. Rediscover a balanced life with Dogwood Therapy and Coaching.

  • Individuals are systems unto themselves, and one aspect of ourselves affects the others. This connection can be an extraordinary benefit, as it means we can transform our life by altering just one aspect of ourselves. Deliberately choosing our thoughts, for example, will necessarily alter our emotions and behaviors, just as changing our behaviors will alter our thoughts and emotions. When we are overwhelmed, we can focus on just one aspect of change and trust the others will follow. Our interconnected nature also means that when one aspect of us is struggling, we can compensate by using the others. Although helpful in the short term, prolonged compensation can lead to imbalance. Perpetual states of imbalance contribute to struggle and stress in other aspects of our selves and our lives. How will your life look when your physical, psychological, relational, and spiritual selves are in balance?
